Brisco = Bare Pockets = Good Night Sleep

So I bought the complete seasons of Brisco County Jr. I just started watching them from the beginning, and dammit if they aren’t as good as when I saw them back in 1993!

The even better part? I dreamt about my boyfriend, Bruce, all night!
Ah….What a dreamboat!

So my reason for ranting: Why was this DVD box set so expensive? I looked around online and think I got a pretty good deal, but this reminds me of ALL DVD series sets. Buying the complete seasons is very big right now. Heck, I am only 1 season away from having all 7 seasons of Star Trek the Next Generation! Of course, I couldn’t actually AFFORD all 7 seasons. Star Trek is over $100 per season – anywhere you look! I burned them through Netflix. But my question is this: Why are they so expensive? It’s like they’re charging $15 per disk per set! Well I don’t like it! Thank gawd we can burn DVDs. Otherwise, I’d NEVER be able to get all seasons of X-Files!

Holy crap. Looking at the above paragraph, I just realized what a nerd I am.

But cereally, why so expensive, mon frere? I mean, most of the box sets aren’t even in syndication anymore. NO ONE wants to buy half of what they’re putting out! I mean, Land of the Lost? The Facts of Life? What’s Happening? Webster? Who wants to buy that crap? And even if you DO want to buy it, why is it so damn expensive? Okay, so many of you may be thinking the same about Brisco – which OBVIOUSLY you’ve never WATCHED that show – but are Warner Brothers and UBU Productions worried about LOSING money over the selling of their ‘great’ TV shows? I would think they’re actually MAKING money buy just putting them out there! And think about all the MORE money they’d be making if they lowered the cost of these stinker’s – so the general public could actually AFFORD them!

Okay. I’ll stop ranting. But I really DO wonder who is gobbling up the complete first season of Diff’rent Strokes at an amazing $40 a pop. I ask you?

How about any other stinker box sets? I’d LOVE to hear about them!

Yes, well, you and your "boyfriend" can have fun, I've got my Golden Girls... no wait, that didn't come out right. anyway. You have to go to e-bay and get the stuff from china. I got ALL FIVE SEASONS of GOLDEN GIRLS for only $40. They go for $45 at Target - EACH SEASON! Boy what a deal! But you do have to put up with the occasional audio and video being out of sync and shabby packaging. But there is no way I would have payed $225 for them. The Golden Girls just aren't that kind of Golden.

I've always been content with downloading TV shows from the peer network. I figure that it's about the same as recording them when they're broadcast.

I have a bunch of wierd stuff including The Young Ones, Ali G, Dave Chappelle, Kids in the Hall, Ren and Stimpy, Space Ghost, MXC and others.

The only problem is the varying quality and the fact that I don't have any idea which seasons my episodes belong to. That kind of stuff can be researched, and a season could be put together, but that would be a lot of work.

BTW, the peer network is a good place to find show episodes from channels you do not receive.

hEY, Aaron,

could you explain that to us less than net-savvy folks? Sounds like just the thing for my unusual-geek tastes...

JoshJoshJosh... my soul brother... my karmic doppleganger... you had me at Jeaneane Garafolo... you had me at Thora Birch... you had me at scooters and indie comics... but the FREAKING Golden Girls!!!??? You have passed into the deepest, darkest regions of the irony zone that even the hippest hipster fear to tread...

Working for the Cable Co, and having more TV than Jeezus, I have a hard time BUYING anything, but occassionally I'll pick up some random double sided sci-fi disk from the dollar store. And I'll usually regret it. My last purchase had "Slipstream" with Mark Hammil, and "Abraxus, Gaurdian of the Universe" w/ some wrestler. Or football player. I forget which.

Not "good bad", just "bad bad"

Isn't the Golden Girls something like Liza Minelli, or Barbara Streisand? Gay guys love that stuff, but who else?
I'm assuming, Josh, that you're being facetious.

This and That said...

Don't you mess with my Barbara Streisand, Amber or I will have to get medieval on your ass. haha. Obviously, I am not a gay man but I grew up listening to 'Liza with a Z' and all Barbara's good films (funny girl era). Yes, my parents were/are in the arts so maybe that has something to do with it.
Barbara to you is kind of like Star Trek ("track") to me...You can all let out your collective gasp now....

As far as a ripoff box set...we bought the star wars one years ago for a lot of money and I was distraught to see the changes George Lucas made. Especially having Hayden Christopher show up at the end of Jedi with yoda and Obi-wan instead of the bald mask off Darth Vader. It made NO sense. I expected Luke to go "who the hell are you". I am sure Lucas will come out with a box set for all of them and it will be ungodly expensive.

I do recommend the 1985 Live AID 4 DVD set I got for $25.00. The nosatlgia was worth it.

Before you all jump on me..it is Hayden Christensen (sp?) I know. Whatever it is...he is a BAD actor!

I won't be letting out a gasp about Star Trek, only a sigh, at least ONE other person in this world feels as I do. Although, I'll always like Patrick Stewart, and he was pretty cool as a cptn, I just never thought the shows were that great.

I don't really buy sets of movies, but if I did I would probably buy the Futurama sets.

Got them!

And are you SERIOUS about Hayden being at the end of the Return of the Jedi?

i haven't seen it....where did you get it? I will have to investigate this attrocity!

Yeah, they also changed Empire so that the emperor hologram was the actor from the other movies, as opposed to the woman who had monkey's eyes superimposed on her face that was there originally.

And at the end of Jedi, during the Ewok ho-down, he cuts to celebrations on other planets, one of which is "Naboo". In the corner of the screen, Jar Jar f#@!ing Binks jumps up and down and yells "weesa free!"

Sadly, I'm not kidding.

George Lucas hates you.

If Hayden is at the end of Return of the Jedi, I will seriously pay for somebody to "off" Mr. Lucas. What a dumbass.

Bruce Campbell is one of the most under-utilized actors working today as he has been damn near great in every role he's ever played.

And I'm with you on TV box sets as it's somehow become acceptable to rip you off with prices that make no sense.

I usually ask for them for birthdays/Xmas.

` I likee boxed sets... Star Wars Special Edition was kinda annoying, though. Especially all the Dubecks and stuff in the first movie that ALL LOOK SO FAKE!
` My boyfriend wants to get Seinfeld... unfortunately, I could never bring myself to watch Seinfeld. But I suppose I could try....

` BTW, I just put more pictures up featuring my mom and the scary, fiery ball chasing us on a boat!

brisco county jr is out on dvd. perhaps it's time for my semi-annual pilgrimage to best buy. no, wait- my credit card still hasn't recovered from my last trip.

surprisingly, i don't have any of the star trek sets. however, i've got the first couple of seasons of the monkees, the a-team, alf, macgyver (actually, i think i'm up to season four on that one, but i'll have to check after i get off work), and that timeless classic- 21 jump street.

when it comes to short-lived series, i've got the young ones, the tick and greg the bunny....all of which i've gotten about halfway through, due to a serious lack of free time.

S E E Quine said...

` I heart the Tick. ...The cartoon, I mean. The live action show was really a disgrace to the Tick's character, I thought he was portrayed as a real moron, as opposed to cutely naive.
` I vaguely remember Greg the Bunny, as well... that's the one with the talking stuffed animal, right? It was weird. Kinda like Wealden Pond, except he was a computer generated cartoon sheep who was a U.S. citizen and interacted with people, had an office job, etc. How they pulled that one off, I don't know....

` And not to be obnoxious with self-advertisement, but I now have those really nice B&W pictures from my 'real' camera up - FINALLY!! - and some more sketches will be up soon enough - DOUBLE FINALLY!! IT'S BEEN SINCE LAST WINTER!!!!
` ...And they're from Dexter's Lab, if anyone should likee that show.

S E E Quine said...

` ...And they're up now, too.

Cas. I can't believe how much your counter has exploded since reaching 10,000. We used to be neck and neck. Since reaching that mark you have 'out-hit' me by a ratio of 2.3 to 1. What tha dilly yo?

S E E Quine said...

` People love her too much. Or maybe your blog having a tendency to explode has something to do with it.
` BTW all who's looking, I have lots more crap up on botha my blogs. It's because I love you.
