I´m in friggin´ Paraguay

I´m at an internet cafe and it is harder than hell to type. I just went to a soccer game in a town next to my village. Seem like an odd post? Well, I´m in friggin´Paraguay!

I don´t have any photos yet, cause I plan on buying a camera next week - but what a whirlwind in getting here!!! What should I have brought? Sheets, Swimsuit and sanity. I am speaking purely spanish with my new host family - and I realize how terrible I am. They don´t speak English AT ALL and my spanish sounds like a 4 year old. not to mention I´m learning the native language, Guarani first - which barely sounds like spanish. Sounds more like Alien crackly language. Tomorrow I spend all Sunday with my host family which consists of my mom (42) dad (47) sister (25) brother in law (28) and their son (2). I live in a "rustico" house with an outhouse and a mosquito net. it´s crazy.

I don´t have much time, but I´m okay, learning to drink the local tea, and dying of heat since i can only wear long sleeves.

I miss you all and I´m okay!

Chow!

Hi Honey, I miss you so much. I am glad to hear you are doing OK. Why is it hard to type? I remember in Croatia the letters on the keyboard where not in the same spots....drove me crazy. Sheets, swimsuit and sanity, hmmm. At least you still have alliteration.

Hi Lady!

I'm really glad to hear from you. I was wondering how
everything is going for you. I didn't know they'd
stick you with your host family so soon. Cool!

Before you know it, you'll be speaking Spanish and
Alien crackly language like a pro! You just gotta
remember that learning a language takes time and
patience, which is the part I always had the most
trouble with.

I have to admit, I'm so jealous of your adventures
right now. Oh well. Maybe I should do the Peace
Corps too. I'm going to check it out.

I'm glad to hear that you are doing well. Please
update me on what you're doing as often as you can.

Peace out,
Paul

P.S. When you start playing your accordion, you'll
probably become even more of a local celebrity! The
other volunteers will want to meet that "old lady" accordion player.

P.P.S. I tried to send this as an email first, but it was returned to me. Maybe your inbox was full. Much love!

don't worry, you'll be speaking spanish and crackly alien in no time. why do you have to wear long sleeves? what is the 'local tea'? can't wait to see some pics. what an adventure you are on. keep up the updates when you can. we are all thinking of you.

ps
the Rockies are actually winning....I could care less but of course Denver is a sea of purple now. my son lost his first tooth, my daughter knows how to say 'octopus', ted is writing for The Onion on the side and I am up early due to allergies. such is life.

miss ya'

Hi, welcome to Paraguay! I lived in Colorado for almost 2 years, it was just great! I hope you can adjust to the many differents things down here, the weather, the food, the people and so on!And don´t worry about the language, in a few months you´ll be able to speak spanish and guarani better than us!
take care!
Carol

Yeah, what's klingon for "clear your inbox," anyway? My e-mail got returned as well :(
