Livin' Evita Loco
I am only a simple woman, people!!!
My boss has got me working my AZZ off, so in honor of not being able to post, not being able to read other blogs, and more importantly, not being able to eat my lunch, I will leave you this funny onion opinions page! It made me laugh out loud, as I identify with all 3 views.
Notice that they said *certain* student loans. This will most likely end up not being ANY of my loans, and I will therefore be more like the second opinion guy (referee) more and more. I've already deferred for 3 years, and my loans will still accrue interest while in the Peace Corps. Boo.

So I’ve turned in my fingerprints, background release form, and recommendations – next step is a second interview!
Tuesday morning I head down to the Denver HQ and talk with my recruiter. She asked me some of the same questions you would ask in a job interview, cause hey, it’s a job. I think I did really well as they were questions like this:
Tell me about a time you had difficulty supervising someone, and how you managed it.
~ I kicked him in the balls and then I fired him.
Tell me how you deal with stressful situations.
~ I drink mass quantities of booze
Have you ever had to change your appearance for a position you were in?
~ If someone doesn’t like my appearance, I smite them.
Have you ever had to teach someone something new, and they were unresponsive?
~ My boyfriend still cannot close the shower curtain after he’s done. I’ve failed.
What do you do when you get angry or frustrated at work with a co-worker?
~ I punch them in the nose and then use my pepper spray.
She seemed to relate to most of these responses, and told me that I still needed a reference from a volunteer supervisor and an evaluation from a Spanish teacher to determine what level I am at. Since I never took Spanish in school (I learned from Guatemalans and Hondurans – so it’s pretty sketchy) I have enrolled in a Spanish Immersion workshop through Colorado Free University. It should be pretty fun. I know absolutely NO grammar, so we’ll see if I can reach a level 1. I’m studying my butt off at home out of an old textbook….
So where it sits: If I reach a Spanish level 1, my recruiter said she could nominate me for a position in Central/South America (I don’t know where) leaving in September. If they don’t accept my Spanish skills, I will most likely be sent to French speaking Africa. Yikes. Although there are a FEW programs she can look up in Eastern Europe. We’ll meet again to determine where I go if SA doesn’t work out.
Current situation: I’ve had an orientation with Volunteers of America (most likely Meals on Wheels, but they did ask me to design a play ground next month), and I’m studying Spanish. I’m also currently looking for a place to live, as we are getting the boot from our house. Our land ladies want us to sign another year lease, as opposed to the month to month verbal contract they had agreed to a couple months ago. So Josh has a new pad, and I’m looking to get rid of ALL my junk and living out of a suitcase in some cheap apartment. Sound fun? Looks like I’ll be living in a 3rd world country a little earlier than anticipated.
At least I have an air mattress.

Loco Mocos Goes Beta
Well Folks -
I've done it.
I have finally switched to Beta.
You want to know why I was in the dark ages? (haha! thanks quine!)
Apparently my blog had been too big to switch over. I tried and tried and FINALLY this morning I got so mad that my pictures wouldn't post, that I tried again.
So what are some of the cool things about Beta? I mean, what's the point? Easier to post? Does it save bandwidth? What is bandwidth? Anyone? Bueller?
I've done it.

No more annoying adds to 'Switch Now!' No more trouble with uploading photos! No more trouble with posting!!! (cross your fingers!)

I'm getting old for the 201598438th Time
So I went out with Kurt for his birthday this weekend.
He took me to a ‘Soul Night’ at a British pub put on by some of his scooter buddies.
First Impressions:
Most of the people there were crazy mod and in their early twenties, in which I heard 3 separate conversations about how they spent their 21st birthdays. This made me laugh at first, and then sigh.
The bar was very small and VERY crowded, which lead to difficulty in getting a beer, standing room only, and no where to hang my huge winter coat (as it was 6 degrees outside).
The music was good – so I was able to relax, drink beer, and have fun.
Then things started to change.
People started leaving, so we were finally able to procure seats, hang up our coats, and finally take a load off. Beers were flowing more easily and I was all warm and cozy with decent tunes.
Until I heard it.
One of the worst songs in history.

Blech!
I looked up, the DJ had changed. Instead of an older, ‘huskier’ scooter guy with a Dickies jacket, there was a young 20 something girl jamming away pulling out records left and right. Why would she pull out THAT song?
Well, this started in a downward spiral of trying to have a ‘soul’ night, but instead listening to Cool 105. Everything this chick played was straight off the Clear Water channel, and right into my beer. I couldn’t tell if people actually thought it was ‘hip’ or not – but I wanted to vomit with all the soft ‘oldies’ she was belting out.
Needless to say, I drank more beer to drown out the Beach Boys, Twist and Shout by the Beatles* and all the other crap I didn’t need to listen to at the British pub.
*as some of you may know, I LOVE The Beatles – so this is further stating that this was by far NOT one of their better songs – but popular on the radio.
But on a lighter note – some of the songs I heard earlier in the evening gave me some good memories.
One that I loved the most was "25 Miles" by Edwin Starr
Oddly enough, I’ve loved this song ever since I first heard it in the movie, Adventures in Babysitting. This one makes me get my groove on.
I’d love to hear some good 'Gettin' Yo Groove On' songs I could check out. Any suggestions?

Lymph - NOOOOO!!!!!
Well, I am sick.
I think.
I woke up Monday morning after only getting 6 hours of sleep (I was watching X-Files, which might have something to do with this) when I awoke to a sore neck.
I was stumbling toward the shower when I went to rub my neck and lo! There was more neck than was there just 6 hours before! I ran to the mirror and a large bump had appeared on my neck.
After my nervous breakdown, I somehow got to work and called my doctor. We’ll call him Dr. Ambiguous. I got an appointment, and all morning clock watched until it was time I left.
After literally PULLING information from him, I found out it was NOT cancer, NOT a spider bite, NOT a twin, and NOT anything to be worried about. Apparently it is an agitated lymph node. I literally begged him to let me make a follow up appointment in 2 weeks to make sure I was 100% back to being a single child (well, non-twin that is). His advice (which was $30 by the way) was to take some Advil.
So I went home feeling much better – but still a little freaked out. So I called my mom. She looked up lymph nodes for me, and read online that because it was so rapid in forming (6 hours – I bet I have the fasted lymph nodes EVAR. They must be THE BEST) that it just meant it was fighting an infection I didn’t know I had. My mom was sweet enough to tell me that tons of people are getting the flu lately – IN THEIR NECKS!!!
For the first time, mom, I don’t quite believe you.
But thanks anyway!
As long as it’s not cancer or some spider from South America (or its babies – eek) I feel good.
Until this morning.
I started getting a sore throat, and wouldn’t you know it – a stuffy head.
So bring it on, FLU! My unborn twin sister is kicking your AZZ - AS WE SPEAK!!!!

Now: Onto Target! We must invest in fashionable scarves ASAP!!!

Technology WHY?
Funny - yet raises a rant!
Why do we need this technology? Is it just there to say that we CAN? If TVs are getting bigger, slimmer, and better picture, why are we also making them smaller and portable?
Josh wants the new iPhone which is an iPod, computer, and phone all in one. You thought that was a blackberry, right? You forgot the iPod part. So you can apparently talk to mom, play solitare, and listen to some Black Eyed Peas while driving to work.
Now you can watch TV? Yikes.
But the question remains - do we really need all this technology at our fingertips? Is it really making life easier - or just more gadgets to spend our money on? I say hooray for technology, but do I really want the average gadget geek to be watching videos while driving his SUV in rush hour? Just like having a TV on your dashboard!!! What happened to listening to a baseball game on the radio so you can pay attention to the little station wagon stuck in the dark ages trying to get to work in your blind spot!!!
Ugh.
Am I being too harsh? Does it really matter what gadget can do what? Not really. No wonder more kids have ADD!!! Not being stimulated by PSP, iPhones, or Wii would sure make me bored in math class!!!
I guess I'll just move up to the mountains, live like a hermit, and cry. Or maybe I'll just make the personal choice not to purchase an iRobot when they come out. At least I won't have to fear them when they revolt.

It ain't over till it's over - Movie Review #4561875
I have decided to take a cue from Planetdan and categorize my movie reviews – whether they are videos or new releases in the theatre. Here Goes: 
Rocky Balboa
Rating: *****
Why I went to see it: I like Rocky movies (although I never saw Rocky V)
What I had heard before viewing: heard it was supposed to be him as an old underdog again
My initial thoughts: I was not excited to see this, but there was nothing else showing
What I thought about it:
I liked it. I liked it better than that one with Mr. T! Apollo Creed getting killed by that Russian had nothing compared to this last chapter!
Although the outcome of the fight itself was a little predicable, the movie up till that point made you root for Rocky, the 60 year old underdog, once again. Not only did the Rocky theme song make me enjoy the training montage just as much as the first one – I was actually more impressed in his physical training than before, BECAUSE HE IS FRICKIN” 60!!!! More than this, you can identify with where he is in his life why he wants to get back into the ring whether you’re 26 or 66.
I was inspired yet again, and came out with a warm fuzzy from the theatre. And isn’t that reason enough to see this movie?

Well just go back to killing people’s dreams with logic then!!!

Holiday Recovery
Even though I was their captive, the Indians allowed me quite a bit of freedom. I could walk freely, make my own meals, and even hurl large rocks at their heads. It was only later that I discovered that they were not Indians at all but only dirty-clothes hampers.

Private 'Special Needs Person'
Alright. I mean Retard.
In all honesty, when I first saw the movie Private Benjamin, I was probably only 8 years old. All I remembered was the boot camp and how they put some blue stuff in the drill sergeant’s shower head. But does anyone remember the last half of the movie? Of course not! Cause it blew goats!
I just saw this movie on WE the other night and thought, "Well, I'll watch it cause I don't quite remember it, and I love Goldie Hawn!"
How dumb was that thought?
The entire basis of humor about some debutant being in the army was how she signed up for 3 years, and couldn’t get out!
So what happens? Not even a year after the best part of the movie (boot camp) she decides to ‘quit’ the army to get married to some loser French guy! Helloooo?
Now, I’m not going to LIST the reasons why this movie could never take place (nail polish, wavy perms, and red underwear - sound like the army?) but what just happened to the plot?! Did I miss something? Who were the writers for this? Because AGAIN, I believe I need to switch careers and become a screenwriter. I mean really, if it’s THAT easy!
I know this movie was no award winner, but why is it still being shown in syndicate? It’s ridiculous! The end of the movie, while you’re waiting for Goldie Hawn to somehow get back INTO the army, she ends up wandering off in a wedding dress down the French countryside!
WHAT????

That and I just heard the dumbest movie quote evar.
I was watching 4 Weddings and a Funeral (cause it was on right before Private Benjamin) and right after Andy McDowell comments on how soaking wet she is from standing in the rain, she says, “Is it raining? I hadn’t noticed.”
WHAT?????? What just happened 2 lines before THAT??? Was I the only person who caught that?
Gawd. I need some Academy Award winners/nominees, and FAST. And NO Jerry McGuire!

In all honesty, when I first saw the movie Private Benjamin, I was probably only 8 years old. All I remembered was the boot camp and how they put some blue stuff in the drill sergeant’s shower head. But does anyone remember the last half of the movie? Of course not! Cause it blew goats!
I just saw this movie on WE the other night and thought, "Well, I'll watch it cause I don't quite remember it, and I love Goldie Hawn!"
How dumb was that thought?
The entire basis of humor about some debutant being in the army was how she signed up for 3 years, and couldn’t get out!
So what happens? Not even a year after the best part of the movie (boot camp) she decides to ‘quit’ the army to get married to some loser French guy! Helloooo?
Now, I’m not going to LIST the reasons why this movie could never take place (nail polish, wavy perms, and red underwear - sound like the army?) but what just happened to the plot?! Did I miss something? Who were the writers for this? Because AGAIN, I believe I need to switch careers and become a screenwriter. I mean really, if it’s THAT easy!
I know this movie was no award winner, but why is it still being shown in syndicate? It’s ridiculous! The end of the movie, while you’re waiting for Goldie Hawn to somehow get back INTO the army, she ends up wandering off in a wedding dress down the French countryside!
WHAT????
Private Benjamin has just entered my list of stinkers. Granted, I’m sure no one is surprised.
That and I just heard the dumbest movie quote evar.
I was watching 4 Weddings and a Funeral (cause it was on right before Private Benjamin) and right after Andy McDowell comments on how soaking wet she is from standing in the rain, she says, “Is it raining? I hadn’t noticed.”
WHAT?????? What just happened 2 lines before THAT??? Was I the only person who caught that?
Gawd. I need some Academy Award winners/nominees, and FAST. And NO Jerry McGuire!

Comin’ down the Chimney, Down!
So my favorite Christmas song just came on the radio station KOSI 101.1FM, which right around Thanksgiving, started playing Christmas music 24/7.
I like listening to Christmas music cause I can sing along here at work, which doesn’t always work while listening to the ‘modern rock’ station (presumably because I am now an OLD LADY). You’d think I would hate it, as I worked retail for 7 years, and had to listen to it NON STOP. But it’s been a while, and I’m not cured yet….
Hemingway, my favorite song came on, which is Happy Holidays by Andy Williams (#2 on album)
There’s just something about the way he says, “Don’t forget, to hang up your sock!” that makes me boogie in my chair! It makes me get into the holiday spirit and want to watch White Christmas, or Elf!
But lo – what came on right after my holiday tune? “My Favorite Things” by Julie Andrews, from The Sound of Music! Is this a holiday tune? And if so, why? When did this become a Christmas staple? And where in the song does she sing about Christmas OR holidays? She just talks about her favorite things, like friggin’ whiskers on kittens!
Speaking of favorite things, has anyone actually listened to that crappy Christmas song, Santa Baby, by Eartha Kit? That entire song is about some tart who wants her sugar daddy to buy her EXPENSIVE things, like a yacht and a platinum mine! WTF??? Of course she deserves all these things cause she has been a ‘good girl’ which translates into THIS in my book….
Geez that song blowz.
But I was trying to thing of GOOD things while at work, so I created my list of favorite holiday tunes:
1. Santa Claus is Coming to Town – Jackson 5
2. The Carol of the Bells – any random choir of boys
3. Happy Holidays – Andy Williams
4. White Christmas – Bing Crosby
And last but not least:
5. Fairytale of New York – The Pogues (Shane MacGowan and Kristy McColl)
