Perhaps not THE nicest, but some of the nicest. Everything anyone had ever said about the East Coast to me was completely dispelled when I spent a few weeks travelling over through the East Coast, travels which included MA, CT, RI, ME, NH, VT. Things did have more bustle, especially on the highway, but in a person to person situation everyone was friendly.
I will say that of all the places I've been I would hands down say that the people in Seattle are the nicest I've ever met, EVER.Blackpetuniahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17233155436335564254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8734359.post-1135186003904706472005-12-21T10:26:00.000-07:002005-12-21T10:26:00.000-07:00Amber, if you want to base your opinions on subjec...Amber, if you want to base your opinions on subjective information from Wikipedia about crime in NYC, go ahead. We all know who creates Wikipedia. It's made by people who have strong feelings about the particular subject. Do you think it's possible for them to be objective?

Crime is just one piece of the puzzle. You don't have to commit a crime to be mean, hateful, or just rude. Amber and Caf, I have only one more question for you both. The statement was made "New Yorkers are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet". Do either of you really believe that to be true?

If New Yorkers are the nicest people you've ever met I feel sorry for you.Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10262020627799815750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8734359.post-1135183491170763862005-12-21T09:44:00.000-07:002005-12-21T09:44:00.000-07:00Proof:CrimeSince 1991, New York City has seen a co...Proof:

Crime

Since 1991, New York City has seen a continuous fifteen-year trend of decreasing crime and is now the safest large city in the United States. Neighborhoods that were once considered dangerous are now thriving with new businesses and housing, and many residents feel safe to walk the streets late at night. Violent crime in the city has dropped by 75% in the last twelve years and the murder rate in 2004 was at its lowest level in over forty years: there were 572 murders that year, for a murder rate of 7 per 100,000 people, compared to 2,245 murders in 1990. The murder rate is expected to drop even further at the end of 2005. Some feel that the implementation of COMPSTAT crime analysis by the New York Police Department in 1994 is responsible for the positive changes.

Overall, New York City had a rate of 2,801.6 crimes per 100,000 people in 2004, compared with 8,959.7 in Dallas; 7,903.7 in Detroit; 7,402.3 in Phoenix; 7,346.8 in San Antonio; 7,194.8 in Houston; 5,470.5 in Philadelphia; 4,376.0 in Los Angeles; and 4,102.7 in San Diego.

Go to Wikipedia and look up NYCBlackpetuniahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17233155436335564254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8734359.post-1135182639618961052005-12-21T09:30:00.000-07:002005-12-21T09:30:00.000-07:00Ignorance is particularly rampant in the Midwester...Ignorance is particularly rampant in the Midwestern and Southern states. If one bases their quality of life SOLELY on how likely it would be for them to get violently attacked, yeah, maybe it would be best to live in Idaho, or even a cave somewhere.

But just because somebody won't kill ya doesn't mean they're nice. (IE Fred Phelps) For the record, I wouldn't suggest going to a busy sidewalk and just standing in the middle of it in NYC any more than I'd suggest going to a Wall Mart in Kansas and asking for a book of lesbian erotica, or anything else not in the "Left Behind" series. (But they won't kill ya!)

Anyway, maybe there are more people per square cenimeter in NYC who will kill ya than there are folks in Smalltown, USA who are judgemental, religious fundamentalists complaining about homosexuality and Harry Potter.

But I gotta tell ya, for the art, for the culture, for the music and dance and ideas and people from all over the world w/ accents you've never heard before, New York is the bomb.

And for a place to be with my family and raise my children, I'll take my chances in a city.

But that's just me man, I'm glad you're happy where you're at.
